Why do people still believe in religion?
It's clearly not real. There is no god or gods. Our imagination does not count, since it is not evidence.
Maybe it's just for people who were beaten up too bad and need artificial values to survive in the real world?

I'll give you a simplified, logical reason for faith. Faith is completely logical if you accept these 3 premises:

>we want to follow the path of this truth, since truth = good (love, happiness, fulfillment, etc)
>we will never learn 100% about this absolute truth underlying the universe through rational and scientific means. We will surely die before.
If we want to follow the path of truth, we cannot rely on science/rationality alone. We need to do a leap of faith into the unknown, trusting 100% we have chosen the right path towards it. A Nihilist chooses to restrain from this leap. He is further away from the truth than anyone else. He is spiritually sedentary, in a way.

The people angry about religion take it too seriously, the people bad at religion also take it too seriously.
Religion as an organised institute is a failed endeavour as it streamlines and pedastalises the whole thing.
You could have a dream a bird with a worm in its mouth tried to feed you through your rectum, wake up in a cold sweat and suddenly feel your understanding of the world is that much firmer. You know it's horse shit and telling people will probably alienate you, but you can't shake the feeling of that little bird somehow gave you something work keeping with you for the rest of your life.

The problem with atheist is they pick the simplest, crudest concept of god and rail against it. They don't do any research about actual theories or concepts about God or where the root of the belief comes from.

I think I'll start going to church soon. The religious schools I've been to were the happiest years of my life. It's a hard red pill to swallow, but sometimes, the truth isn't that important.

There is no reason why religion shouldn't still exist op. It provides a guide to life, connection to other people as well as (if you believe it or not) a higher being.
I'm not saying you can't be happy without a good religion, but religion is an easy way to do so. If you are happy as an atheist, more power to you. However, if somebody wants to join a peaceful religion (i.e., not fucking Islam), I see no issue with it. I find atheism to be lonely and boring. A good religion brings order, community, and purpose. That is why people still believe in religion.
