FDR was an aristocratic progressive who was convinced of his singular power to transform the country for the better and deluded enough to think that an economy can be steered out of a severe downturn with policies that consisted of paying farmers to burn their crops. He trampled all over the Constitution and severely weakened the independence of the states by strong arming them into national programs like Social Security and the NLRB. Fuck FDR.

Lot of negatives long term from his social programs but at the time it was mostly whites he helped. Most CCC and WPA jobs were filled by whites. Rural electrification was primarily in white areas. Blacks who lived in those areas only benefited indirectly from the improved local economy but not from electricity itself since their homes and businesses weren't wired up during the initial build out. Housing projects were originally all white, only existed as desegregated housing for a short period before whites moved out. This happened after FDR was gone.

That blacks took his social programs and abused them is really the fault of following administrations and congresses. FDR's policies and programs helped white greatly in the short term. It was only when his successors expanded the programs and made them permanent that the real harm begun.

He is overrated, there are better presidents from both sides. I would argue he is below average.
WWII and everyone hated Herbert Hoover, and that hatred extended to the Republican Party.
