Elaborate. I can't imagine what would have to happen for the US to support a military in Germany out of all places.

Depends on whether the EU and especially Germany ever grow up and realize that austerity cannot fix the joblessness crisis in Greece, and that the unemployed cannot pay taxes. Also on how many migrants get stuck in Greece living on the public dime.
In a worst-scenario, Germans will squeeze Greek finances tighter and worsen unemployment and thus tax revenue, while balkan states will isolate Greece to keep migrants from invading, leading to a coup when the army gets tired of paycuts and paying for foreigners and Germany being to blame for both problems.

Sounds plausible, and not terribly promising for the Greeks. For one thing, if the coup happens due to the migrants stuck in Greece, it would allow Western forces to justify an invasion as preventing genocide.

Germany is kind of a vassal to the US. And if Merkel, or probably Schulz, goes too far with they are the best and most clever of all, dictate everything in Europa etc, in short if they went full retard and the US thinks thats enough.
Germans follow their orders, even if they are pissed by them. And the German military right now is very pissed by this millions of 'we want to have a better life and conquer Europa' asylum seekers. They would be on.
