Sure hope they stop letting China go unchecked and just

SINK

Because the answer is quite simple. There was no defeat or victory involving the US. The GIs were only deployed to support the Republic of Vietnam, and were then withdrawn by Nixon before the Civil War ended.
The only truly defeated party in the war was South Vietnam.

In a way we did win and at the same time we didn't.
My old man told me if forces had finished the job the commies wouldn't have taken over but the hippies made everything difficult with their bleeding heart propaganda and so the soldiers had to pull out.
Hippies costed us the war and then spat on and shunned soldiers who returned.
The entire thing was fucked

No clear objective.
You can not fight someone elses war.
South Vietnam was next to useless, US troops would take a area, South Vietnam would come in and hold the area while US troops moved on to the next region. South Vietnam forces would always lose the area. Repeat.
We never went into North Vietnam making it impossible to win.

can a vietnam person call him a nigger please

because its almost impossible to quell an entire population, especially one that was fighting for their independence when America was merely trying to send a message to Russia and China.

what's truly amazing is that America totally missed this lesson, the only thing they added to their repertoire after Vietnam was a bizarre infatuation with the troops

Nobody "won" the war. It was an absolute mess and the US basically pulled out because it wasn't worth fighting.

And then the US basically "won" by doing nothing since the country isn't controlled by radical militants nowadays.

>tried to fight a war of attrition
>hippies back home were being bitches
>reach agreement in paris accords to pull out
>after that N. Vietnam crushes the south because they can't fight for shit

Blaxit to Vietnam!

We learned plenty from Vietnam. It led to a complete overhaul of our air force and naval aviation, improved doctrine on use of helicopters, worked the kinks out of the M-16 platform, and led to an increased focus on precision munitions. All of that led up to the Gulf Wars being an absolute ass raping of the Iraqi military. The real lesson we failed to learn is "genocide the locals if you want to hold ground."
