Polygamy among humans has historically never been something most men partake in or try to partake in, it was something particularly rich and powerful men who could support numerous wives/concubines and children did. Not really since the number of men taking multiple wives would likely be highly limited especially if culture dictated that women couldn't work meaning a man with multiple wives would need to support those wives and children fully by himself. In other words if 1 in 1000 men had multiple wives and the average number of wives per man with multiple wives was 4 than that would mean that the remaining 999 men would have 996 women between themselves. Of course the actual number might be closer to 999 anyway since women slightly outnumber men.

Of course such a system requires a significant reorganization of society, and if polygamy was legalized tomorrow and became widely accepted 99% of the people who would enter polygamous marriages probably would just be degenerates. However as a thought experiment it is poignant to note that there is nothing inherently wrong with polygamy in a well ordered society.
