CNN is not publishing "HanA**holeSolo's" name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same.
CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.
Nobody steal my idea for an all girls with elephants tumblr you can spank to.

>because he is a private citizen
If that was the end of the sentence, it would be fine.
But that's not the end of the sentence. CNN believes they are the judge, jury, and executioner of speech on the internet.
It doesn't matter what the private citizen believes or what entirely legal things the private citizen has done.
It does not matter what the private citizen might do in the future.
CNN made him a public target. CNN said he was inciting violence (not at all true, if CNN wants to dispute that they are welcome to file a criminal or civil complaint). CNN said he was attacking democracy itself.
CNN then threatened to unleash the most violent political movement in the US since the Weather Underground on him if he ever did anything that CNN, a private organization, deemed "ugly."
This is why we have laws. This is why we need laws. This is what this goddamned country was founded for, to protect private citizens from arbitrary and whimsical punishment by a powerful few who dreamed themselves above accountability.
That they did this all on the fucking Fourth of July just demonstrates how much contempt they have for the American way of life.

You're not really super clear on how criminal complaints get filed, are you?

I hope so too. I'll use it to add fuel to the fire of hate against CNN.
