dang...well, I was hoping for a serious question but this was cool :3
How does it feel to have the same level political and theoretical knowledge as someone who spent a summer reading instead of 8 years in school?
Nice barista-studies tier degrees.
Do you think most forms of Libertarian Theory are actually capable of being implemented given the current power dynamics in our political system?
If you lived in the Soviet Union, you would be Marxism-Leninism professor. In the 90s you would die of starvation. I can't wait for this country to experience the collapse of the empire. Many useless cucks will die. You are included.
It feels pretty good to teach classes, relate to others and get paid for it. I've written several books as well. I work like 8 hours a week and write most of the time. I really enjoy my work. I am, of course, one of the lucky ones who actually got a professor gig.
suggest literature, anything really
what do you think of the fact that so many in the US government have dual citizenship with Israel? Should people in government be allowed to have dual citizenship, is that not a conflict of interest?
> political and science in the same phrase
LoL XD
Maybe once in the past. Today, bureaucracies have taken a life of their own. People will fight to keep their jobs at the expense of the taxpayer. I believe there are 17 intelligence agencies in the USA, how many did we have 100 years ago? In my heart, I am a libertarian, but I do not see it working today. I hope Trump can cut back on some of the bureaucratic fat. I think he is doing a pretty good job btw. Great question, one I often think about and discuss with students.
How many hypothetical entities does it take for the current cosmological model to be believable?
Do you wish you could get back all that time you wasted learning about these hypothetical entities and just be a Christfag instead?
I think of that often. I have no real skills to survive out there. I've published on that subject as well, shame you can't eat paper.
Are you new here? Reply to posts by clicking on the post ID number at the top right of the post. This will make it more clear who you're replying to.
My favorite book is "Theory of International Politics" by Kenneth Waltz. I also love anything by Hans Morgenthau.
How did she lose?
Do you prefer Joseph or JB?
I am new, I usually just read the boards, I find the stuff on here interesting when its actually serious. I also like the other shit, it can be quite funny. Thank you by the way, very kind.
How does it feel to have wasted your life?
57-year-old guy who actually does hold a Ph D from the Government department of the London School of Economics here.
Would any of you junior-high-school kids from Boise, Idaho get a kick out of watching this other junior-high-school kid from Boise, Idaho (i.e. OP) get hopelessly, irrecoverably ass-blasted by an actual educated adult?
It's dusk on a very hot day here in Paris and needless to say I have a thousand better things to do but right now I can't seem to muster the energy for them.
So anyone up for watching me kick this lying little prick's pretentious lying little ass a few times round the yard?
she's a terrible candidate and person. She fucked up big time, but primarily she did not understand the needs of the middle class. The middle class punishes the status quo. Obama was a failure for the most part and that hurt her. Trump is new, fresh, exciting, and still is to me.
>I will suggest literature whenever possible
rec me a book for each numbered section on this chart
He could be for real. US really declined to the point where this type of shithead could be a university professor. My pot head friend became a professor in a top tier University. This guy is on par with other morons that teach now.
Let's hear your predictions for the future. What are the next 5 years going to look like? What about the next 10 years?
what kind of mistakes a self taught studentusally commits? why you need to go to university?
also please recommend some books on the result of feminism in the west
For the books in the numbered chart, I suggest getting this reader: "Communism, Fascism and Democracy" by Cohen. Good selection of readings including Marx, Hitler, Mussolini, Hobbes, Locke, etc...whats interesting as well is that these ideologies are all interrelated in some way.
I know, I work with some real assholes
Protip: click on someone's post number the reply to them
Click the post No. you are replying to retard.
You should never try to make predictions, maybe just for fun. I have some thoughts: the USA will continue to grow economically. The EU will continue to be on the brink of economic/political disaster. China will implode (lots of vulnerabilities there). North Korea will remain autistic.
HOLY SHIT! I GOT IT!!! LOL, I was clicking on the wrong thing, this is so much easier!
did i get it?
Current political science bachelor's student here. After I graduate I was planning on getting a master's in teaching and be a high school gov teacher but I'm starting to consider going all the way and getting a PhD to work in a university. Is it worth the extra School?
good boi
>Cohen
Right off the bat, recommending jewry literature.
OFF THE WRONG START PROF.
I don't know any self taught folks, but I know some (not alot) feminist scholars. They do serious work, not the cancer you see on tumblr. For authors, check out Cynthia Enloe.

If you can't or won't make predictions, then what good are you? Why do you or your field even exist?
Ok, next question. Why should anyone take poli "sci" seriously? How do we know that it isn't all shit-tier bullshit that has no connection to reality?
LOL, sorry, its a good one, and affordable too.
what's your interest? I like International Security the most.
what about alain soral? some of his critics seemed really on point
What field do you specialise in famiglia?
I'm a comparative politics poli sci professor.
That is a fair critique, theories are used to explain things and you need to back up everything with data or proof. The field exists to explain, for instance, why hillary lost. Check out the "Sleeping Dog" Theory and things will begin to make sense, or at least, its a good attempt.
I am unfamiliar with him, but I made a note to look him up later. Thank you.
Im a history fag with an interest in proxy conflict/ intelligence/ transnational crime history, as well as looking into the spread of general political, economic and technological history from a geographic perspective
gives you a good foundation to delve into economics and policy for pursuing money laundering, or look into understanding computers/coding for cyber security
International Relations
books by Peter Andreas and Naim Moses. Great stuff on transnational crime networks. Cyber-security stuff is still new, data needs to come in but I am interesting in the dark web.
Also, what are some good readings for me? I especially enjoy international relations as well.
LOL! I do enjoy actually posting for once. Thank you.
Go all the way. You work less in the long-run. Study in Europe where its cheaper.
>
what do you mean?
what are you on about?
I don't think you're getting my point. I know why Hillary lost. She lost because I was slapping my dick sideways that day. Proof: I was slapping my dick sideways that day and she lost.
This is my problem with social "sciences". They're usually bullshit-tier theories and models which yield zero useful real world results. These entire fields lack all verifiability. They're as solid as my dick slapping theory
great debate. I am actually not sure. Hobbes and Locke talk about that except they suspected Catholics. I would say that if citizens want to run for office, they would be required to give up the other citizenship.
Once you get the PhD is it difficult to actually get a job? My biggest concern is there's only one university in the area where I want to live and I think that would limit job openings too much.
Its definitely not a science and its not perfect at all, and studies tend to draw on the dependent variable. But look, your proof is weak, was it just you slapping your dick sideways or did more Americans join in the dick slapping and that took them away from the polls. See what I mean? Let's look at war: you can explain war by saying war is just a part of politics as countries fight over interests in terms of power. That's a pretty good statement that help us understand why countries go to war.
If you want to live in one area, then you are really limiting yourself. It isn't difficult to get a job if you have a solid number of publications (books, academic journals), number of classes taught and good letters of recommendation. You do have to fight to stand out.
What a good starter book for understanding fascism.
>But look, your proof is weak, was it just you slapping your dick sideways or did more Americans join in the dick slapping and that took them away from the polls.
Are you seriously critiquing my dick slapping theory? If so, you might want to start from the fundamental basics, namely that correlation does not prove causality. Even if A and B are correlated, it does not prove that one causes the other (A and B might both be caused by C, or maybe the correlation is a coincidence). But then again if you apply basic logic to social "sciences", they tend to collapse entirely.
>Let's look at war: you can explain war by saying war is just a part of politics as countries fight over interests in terms of power. That's a pretty good statement that help us understand why countries go to war.
Ok, what kind of useful results does that saying yield? What are "the terms of power" right now? Which countries are about to go to war?
If all you want to do is explain things then I'll go with the dick slapping theory. It's as well founded as poli "sci" but dick slapping is easier to remember
One of my favorite books by Walter Laqueur "Fascism: Past, Present and Future". I bought it as a lad and loved it, still use it today.
What are your predictions on the political climate of the U.S in the next 15 years?
Malmö, Sweden?
Oh mang, I would like to have a beer with you. I am not entirely convinced with this idea of "causation" in social sciences. I prefer the idea of "constitution" in that two things relate and reinforce one another. Alexander Wendt describes this in his article "anarchy is what states make of it"
For the whole power and interests question, lets just use an example. Say you have two states, Russia and Germany. They both have interests to protect their spheres of influence, lets say, Poland. Each sees Poland as theirs historically. Instead of going to war, they split Poland. They make a treaty. Will the treaty survive? No, because it may not be in either's interests in the long-term given the need to take over all of Poland. This is an example off the top of my head.
Interests is also the reason Russia and the USA are fighting over the control of Eastern Europe now, why Saudi Arabia and Iran are going to go to war soon as well.
You raise some good points, but I see some value in poli sci for now.
fucked. Its going to get worse as long as Dems and the GOP keep demonizing one another. The Dems may not be able to win another election if they remain the party for elites.
sorry guys, but you have to be able to count without using your fingers in order to "understand computers" and "cyber-security"
>Oh mang, I would like to have a beer with you.
I doubt it. That would be an evening filled with me shitting on your entire field. Look, I'm not trying to be mean here, all I'm saying is that modern universities are filled with a lot of useless crap. We have to take out the garbage. And I admit, at least your field is not as shit as sociology
>For the whole power and interests question, lets just use an example. Say you have two states, Russia and Germany. They both have interests to protect their spheres of influence, lets say, Poland. No, because it may not be in either's interests in the long-term given the need to take over all of Poland. This is an example off the top of my head.
Yes, I see what you mean. You've provided me with a model of how the world works. But you haven't proven that that model has any connection to reality. There are all kinds of crazy ideologues who have all kinds of ideas about how the world supposedly works, and all of their theories have no verifiability.
>Interests is also the reason Russia and the USA are fighting over the control of Eastern Europe now, why Saudi Arabia and Iran are going to go to war soon as well.
See? Now you're making predictions about the future. These are things with which we can test your model. If your model gets a lot of things right, then maybe we can concede that you might be onto something.
I realize that things like politics are incredibly complicated, and it is difficult to make comprehensive models or to test those. I've been reading geopolitics for some 10 years now and some think tanks are finally at least trying to verify their models by making predictions. I realize that the world is complicated but if field like poly "sci" can't predict things then they should be called what they are, a guessing game
Why should you continue to draw a salary?
can you suggest a book or article?
I'm planning to study International Relations (possibly with economics)
What do you like most about it?
What do you like least about it?
Also, what kind of careers could I get into with an undergrad in IR?
Everything is a guessing game in the field of Politics. Do keep an open mind going forward. Nothing is perfect in this world. Some theories are better than others. My favorites are Waltz's Structural Realism and Gilpin's theory of hegemonic war. The latter is a truly elegant explanation for world wars. You can read a short article online if you do a search.
demand and supply
Give me a good book (preferably not written from best-goy perspective) that will make me economically literate, and preferably address recent arguments (ala Vox Day and workforce migration). Bonus points if it's short.
great question. I love war, the lead up to war is very exciting to study, but I have even more love for considering peace. As an undergrad, you might be able to work at IGO's, NGO's and so on. You may also work in your country's bureaucracy. Check out the AMEI conference in your country. I participated in Huatulco and Tabasco conferences. You have a beautiful country.
you made me lol, thanks faggot :D
this is out of my league, a tad boring for me as well.
Thank you for the suggestions, I will look into it.
AMEI - Asociación Mexicana de Estudios Internacionales
Thanks for the suggestions, I will look into those.
Still, I don't think we've solved the fundamental problem here. Your entire field, what is it based on? Why should I take it seriously? Should I take it seriously? I read a fair amount of politics and I see all kinds of ideologues peddling their models about reality, and I don't see what basis or verifiability any of those models have. Why are you better than the guy who believes that Jews are the reason for every single catastrophe ever? Or should I lump your entire field in with those people?
>being this new
>I hope Trump can cut back on some of the bureaucratic fat. I think he is doing a pretty good job btw.

AHHAHAHAHAHAH
do fuck off
the point regarding political science rationalization (eg. sleeping dog theory regarding hillary's loss) is that hindsight is 20/20. and even when it's not 20/20 people are going to invent some rationalization anyway because that's what we do
regarding war; war is not always rational, and people miscalculate. not all interests are rational either.
The field hopes to understand how things relate. We are supposed to collect, classify and analyze our facts and draw our inferences; and we shall then be ready to investigate the purpose to which our facts and our deductions can be put. Like a scientist, we should deduce the nature of the state based on its behavior: “In the physical sciences, the distinction between the investigation of facts and the purpose to which the facts are to be put is not theoretically valid, but is constantly observed in practice." That's from E.H. Carr's book "twenty-years' crisis"
We would need to go through a study first to understand its use. I usually like history to justify my study but there are other people who use statistics. The Jews are not responsible for every single catastrophe ever because there are better explanations out there. For instance, Israel is not solely responsible for the 6 day war because of the behavior of Arab states. Furthermore, you may be able to understand war in general if we assume states operate in anarchy. Structural Realism states that anarchy is the major organizing principle in international politics. Since there is no over-arching authority, we conclude that states must always be ready for war. This is another example of actual theory building. If you have time or really care, do check out the work I mentioned. These are good questions that I usually do not think about but I must be able to make a better case for approaches to understand the field of Politics.
> I love war, the lead up to war is very exciting to study
it's happening now
ww3 soon
kek, you asked, OP delivered.
I didn't ask, and I don't think that's what the other user was asking for anyway. he was asking for books on feminism's effect on the West, not actual feminist books
How is it I was reading Putnam in 2002 (probably four times in my PSCI career - mid-tier flagship state university) and it hasn't had more impact?
Certainly, misconceptions occur, there's a great book about it called "Blinders, Blunders and War"
The sleeping dog theory helps us understand why something happened. We rationalize why things happen all the time, its what we do, the sleeping dog theory is an example.
I do apologize.
Not quite sure, I like his work myself when I did comparative politics.
tell me, how will it happen? I'm interested to hear your thoughts and then I will tell you how I see it. This is just for fun.
the primary fault lines are Israel and the rest of the Middle East (with NATO and Russian support); and then NATO vs. Russia in the rest of the world.
there is a secondary fault line - Islamic jihadism, something Obama referred to as the "JV" team. that would manifest in terrorist attacks throughout the western world, and it's not independent of the Russian/NATO dynamic either; links to follow

How do we know that a field such as physics is valid? That any of their models have any validity? It's because they produce useful and verifiable results. There is concrete evidence for this. We can use those mathematical formulas to generate predictions, and then test those predictions, thus validating those models.
Now I realize that the world of politics is much more complicated, and it cannot be verified the same way. Which brings us back to those fundamental questions: if it cannot be verified, what justification does it have for existing?
>The Jews are not responsible for every single catastrophe ever because there are better explanations out there.
But how do we know they are better? I mean if I were to seriously try and defend the Jew model, I could do so. I daresay that most conflicts have had at least some amount of Jews on one side or the other. Maybe the Arab states had to try and destroy Israel because Jews are pure evil? Maybe I could even find statistics that Jews are over-represented here and there, would that validate my model?
The point here is that we can build all kinds of defences for all kinds of models. If not for verifiablity, how do I ultimately judge which one of these models is the best?

Your primary fault line is absolutely plausible. I can see China in the mix as well, they may be seeking additional prestige/defense of interests in the South China Sea as they continue to build islands.
Islamic Jihadism may eventually turn on itself, but also a war with Islam may break out given fatigue of putting up with constant attacks. Fighting terrorism is in general a very difficult topic because the more terrorists you kill, the worse things seem to get. Sometime more needs to be done, alongside drone strikes, to ensure we finish with Islamic terrorism. I am not sure what though at this point.
