Can someone please explain to me property tax? Why should I pay the government for shit that I own? I can understand property tax for a factory or a business but our homes? I'm essentially paying rent to keep my own shit.
The whole point of property tax is for funding services such as fire protection and garbage pickup. Where I live, garbage pick-upis are 100% privatized and I have to pay for it separately. If I'm not mistaken, my income taxes pay for all the other shit like police and firefighters. So WTF am I paying for?

Originally it was so wealthy didn't just hoard land because land is one of the most valuable assets.
But most governments need it because they can't be bothered to spend money efficiently.
