It's not just democracy/facism you have to consider, but whether you want economic capitalism or socialism.
Capitalism is the best system right now, because it is the system that will allow us to build the bridge to the post-scarcity utopia. But you eliminate scarcity first, because otherwise socialism suggests that there is x amount of pie, and the state will divvy it up. The goal of capitalism is to say we have x amount of pie, let's make more, no, let's make so much fucking pie that everyone can stuff their face and die from eating so much pie. Capitalism is wealth additive, but once there's unlimited pie (post singularity), it doesn't matter who / how it's distributed, because it's unlimited.
People think ideology is this thing that works 'on it's own', when ideology is tied completely and totally into economics, and economics, well that's tied into freedom. Only when I have freedom of thought can I choose to think that trowling a field with a hoe is fucking stupid and then go and 'think' up a fucking tractor. Remember that statistically, ~100 years ago, if you were a man in society, you had a 9 in 10 chance of being a farmer. 9 in 10. Sustenance farming allows for cities, which allows for universities, ethics, scholars, etc.
But it's freedom that's key. The world we live in today is materially the same as it was 100 years ago, only there's 7x the people, living 3x as long, with electricity, light, heat, transportation, we didn't invent more resources, we just learnt how to discover what we had / use it more efficiently, and all that comes from freedom of thought (When coal prices got jacked up in the early 1900's, someone went fuck paying that much for heat, invented the oil lamp, and fucked coal miners in the ass). Only when I have the freedom to say 'fuck doing it this way', can I create a better way, and capitalism encourages people to find these 'better ways', by giving you a fuck tonne of money when you find one.
