Four is pretty fun if you get a group of friends to play it and actually continue the games after the first session.

Absolutely wrong. HoI4 is a tremendously terrible game whereas HoI3 is great with a few flaws. All they had to do was take the best of HoI2 and combine them with 3 and 4 would have been amazing but instead we got hearts of universalis.

War was actually going great until Italian player got fucked by Brit player. Just that the frontlines are horrible.

It has nothing to do with overextending, shit happens attacking Poland. You make a frontline plan and then as soon as the tanks breakthrough and start surrounding shit the frontlines warp and wrap around the pockets and then when the pockets are eliminated the frontlines start going over each other and stretching out way too far.

It is just a shitty game mechanic that does not work.

i'm playing hoi3 without the DLC and i'm happy but I could be happier. Too bad the DLC costs as much as the game. Anyways hoi3 is only fun if you play as a major country, any other state is fucking hard to get reasonable IC or research on. I once played as turkey and only with the help of Germany and Romania I could manage to push the Russians even a bit back. I eventually took Stalingrad though which was pretty awesome.

However, playing the game without DLC means you'll have to play as a superpower, otherwise you're fucked.

Regarding Vic2, the ideology system is completely BS. No matter what you do, your pops will firstly drift towards liberalism and later towards socialism, and there is absolutely nothing you can do,
Still via supression this problem could be fixed, but here comes the most broken feature in the game into play: rebellions. You get them every five years and they have a volume of millions of people, which means you kill your pops at an insane rate (these rebellions will kill much more of your pops than wars could ever do).
Late game it felt that Paradox just wanted to push a progressive agenda and the whole game system was build around.
