pol/ just got back from a month-long trip through rural Japan and it was the most aesthetically and socially pleasing experience I've had in my life. While Tokyo is an intense spectacle most of the country hasn't been ravaged by hypercapitalism or multiculturalism. In the provinces people are still in tune with the world around them in a way I haven't seen anywhere else. They have preserved a sophisticated, yet simple way of life that permeates every aspect.
When did Europeans lose this impulse to preserve who they were and to inherit a decent world to their children?
I feel absolutely disjointed after coming back from that trip knowing that I will never live in a reality like the one I saw in those places. Is it possible to achieve this again for the west or are we condemned to a dystopian, technology-driven industrialized future?

I'm getting the vibe that by "Europe" you mean European cities. Rural areas in European countries very much maintain their own way of life, many Mediterranean areas have record high rates for longevity - much like Japan. A lot of it is attributed to their lifestyle.
