The e-mails asked him to take 1 million USD from the Russian government in exchange for filming a commercial for their site while within the Embassy
Assange saw through the scam and documented everything, releasing the report in October 2016 and linked here Toddandclare.com filed a false report of Assange involving sexting minors in the Bahamas with the UN after they were exposed
The internal Wikileaks investigation proved the company was fraudulent with fraudulent documentation / business records. I believe they conducted a similar sting against Trump Jr involving meeting with the Russian woman. It's all too eerily similar, right down now to the supposed "smoking gun" e-mails where they mention specific Russian moscow ties.

The sequence of events is the same, only Assange was trapped in his Embassy and didnt entertain the offer at all.
Trump Jr may have entertained the offer but the offer itself was illegitimate and intended only to create a future compromising situation to use against him (substituting the 1 million USD offered to Assange with more damaging material to use in the campaign against Clinton)

Thought of a few reasons,the first of which is incredibly petty but not surprising. Jr has been the administration's unofficial attack dog basically since January. He has great social media presence and can take things a little farther than his dad can there. The first thing I thought of was the Top Gun CNN edit that he retweeted, and then a day later this shit starts.
A more reasonable one is that G20 went better than (((they))) hoped as well as the Russia narrative taking a bunch of hits in the last week and a bit and it was actually dying out. Then bam, more "damning" evidence, he will surely be impeached this time.

It's an email from Trump's long time buddy Goldstone who helped get one of his Ms Universe pagents (or w/e) into Moscow and tried to get a Trump Hotel setup in Russia a while back.
Goldstone wasn't exactly a close personal friend, but he did manage to contact Don Jr about some second hand info he heard and tried to setup a meeting with one of his Russian friend's lawyer, who has been, for years, trying to get the repeal of the Magnitzky Act done through lobbying.
This lawyer has worked with Fusion GPS before and has numerous second hand ties to them through her Billionaire client in Russia. Trump's lawyers speculated as much as well. It looks like someone (CIA probably) were trying to paint superfluous ties almost as soon as it was clear he would win the nomination.
even if that isn't true, its not unheard of for lobbyists to use personal ties to try and gain audience with influential people. The problem with this story is that it doesn't fulfill the overarching narrative, in fact it makes it look even worse by being wholly ancillary to the general accusations being thrown around. and at worse, it looks like a setup.
If the $1million bribe in Russian funds to Assange happened in October 2016 methinks it was a setup to then say Assange was paid by Russia, working with Russian "hackers' to release the DNC emails. There was NO link to Russia for Wikileaks so these dishonest criminal gang were trying to create one. Ditto with the "pings" from a Russian Bank to a Trump computer.
