That said, the women players should keep their mouths shut if they don't want to upset their little gravy train of equal pay (in ITF events), since the fact is they're gerting paid equally for 3/5 the work. Plus the men play at an astronomically higher level than the women. Any D1-level male player would thrash any WTA player dropping at most 2-3 games in best of five (and 1-2 in best of three).

In one you're passing the ball with your whole team for 90 mins (with a large half-time break and coaching during matches), but in the other it's mono-a-mono for 3+ hours with short breaks, no coaching, more on-court thinking, strategizing and problem-solving all the while pulling off extremely nuanced and technical shots (moreso than in soccer). I would even argue modern tennis is more physically exhausting than soccer, but that's beside the point. Tennis is about tactics and technique, not just brute endurance. Sure if we changed the WTA to best of five at slams the players could probably eventually adapt, but the lecel would go way down over the course of the tournament, therre would be more emotional/physical breakdowns and it would become a matter of who simply could last physically/mentally the longest.

Women LITERALLY have less mitochondria than men. Mitochondria produce ATP, which enables short-term muscle contractions (ie raw strength and power). Because women have less they cannot match men in strength and even skinny manlets can physically overpower the average woman.
Here's the kicker - there is less sexual difference in regards to cardiovascular activity. Often women can compete at the same (cardiovascular) level as men, even though their muscular strength is lower. For this reason in running events, the percentile gap in world-record times decreases significantly as distance INCREASES. Swimming, a cardiovascular activity, favors women for this reason as well as increased body fat.

No, I am saying elite women athletes fall short in every sport to elite-athlete men in the same sport, often by extremely large margins. I have often heard the claim (such as from you) that in ultra-endurance sports, the gap lessens, but the justification often involves theoretical hand-waving (womens have less muscles = less respiration, plus more body fat by default even though an elite athlete male would clearly optimize his level of body fat for the occasion). You know what user you are right and wrong at the same time. Because at these ultra-high distance events (ld swimming and ultramarathons) the nature of the events means no two will be the same. I am a runner so I will talk about what I know. Time records are pretty much useless in ultramarathons (100+ miles) because of weather conditions, course conditions, elevation, competition+strategies of the day, what the person ate for breakfast...so time is useless. But women show up much more frequently in the top 10 of these races than in a 100m dash where any man would dust a woman.
Simply we do not know, but in my opinion any footrace past 50-100 miles is a race of mental toughness, and then it is fair game for men or women. BUT the science suggests the gap lessens, however due to the inconsistency of the events themselves we may never know.

If we're just asking whether a woman could complete an ultra-marathon the same as a man then the answer is obviously yes. If we are comparing them head-to-head then I would still wager that the record are all held by men by fairly large margins. Throwing out any competitive aspect and just asking for either sex to complete the event, then yes the potential gap lessens (though men are still more likely, physically and mentally, to be up for the task).
