I think it's to do with light. The moon is pretty bright and apparently it's much closer to earth than we've been led to believe.

It's like planets, there's a reason you can't see them because they're further away which makes theym look smaller. From your perspective the ice wall would be too small to see becaus it's too far away. And the wall would not be giving off any light like planets and the moon do.
