The idea behind it is good, but you have to keep in mind people are messing with biological mechanisms they may not fully understand. If it goes wrong, the mosquitoes could develop genetic mutations that make them more dangerous - not to mention potential harm to the food chain since they'll likely attempt to wipe out the whole species in the long run, if it doesn't just happen accidentally anyway.
