I broke my hand recently...really simple metacarpal fracture. So simple if the bone was a bit less fractured they could have popped it into place but instead had to operate. They prescribe me pain meds. Its worth mentioning that it didnt hurt when I broke it and drove myself to the hospital nor did it hurt after the surgery...yet they still prescribed it. I had moderate discomfort but never any pain..so why prescribe it...

Chronic pain sufferer here. I believe the problem is due to tighter restrictions on prescription pain killers. With prescriptions, you know exactly what you're getting and how much you can take without overdosing. You never truely know exactly what you're getting when it comes to street drugs or how potent it may or may not be.
