So I married a Good Christian Woman about a year ago. I've never been much of a churchgoer myself, despite my beliefs, but we've gone fairly regularly this past year and have tried probably 4-5 different non-denominational churches. They're all terrible. The biggest thing I have noticed is that the message and entire church structure is specifically designed and focused on appealing to women.
Modern Church Guidance For Men:
-Don't you dare look at porn.
That's about it.
You walk in, get bombarded with some terrible Christian pop music for twenty excruciating minutes, then hear a message that is either Babby's First Bible Exposure or some sort of HOW TO COPE WITH YOUR SHIT nonsense. About one in ten has anything worth listening to in it. The presentations vary in quality and production value, but the messages don't really get any better.
Everything else is OVERCOMING FEAR or ANXIETY or SHAME or JESUS HAS YOUR BACK or thinly veiled versions of HOW TO ASK GOD FOR FAVORS, etc. What use is this to the average man?
The other day she mentioned this awful book LOVE WINS wherein the author posits that EVERYONE GOES TO HEAVEN no matter what, that's just how God loves us and somehow the Bible is wrong. She thought it was a good idea, so I tried to explain to her that she might as well throw her Bible away, since it completely invalidates the sacrifice of Jesus. She just didn't get it and got sullen about it. How have you been going to church your entire life and don't get this?
I mentioned in an earlier thread that I thought about going to an Eastern Orthodox church, but she said noooo, it's so ritualistic! What the hell do you think listening to these garbage songs and following along is?
I don't know what to do. I will probably keep going to useless church and get zero out of it because marital harmony. But I am not happy.
