That is very much preferable. I can understand that he fell in love with a Jewish girl before knowing what he knows now. I do not hold it against him, but I do not see how he can continue to be married to a Jew and go around saying what he says now. She knew about it and was clearly ok with it because apparently she had no Jewish identity but there's no way it could continue with her family knowing about it without her having to cut ties with them.
