Yeah some data should be recoverable if not encrypted. Text, zip compression (like jpegs), zips, video, etc. should be mostly recoverable.

If it's encrypted (full disk), probably not going to get anything back since you will be missing encryption-related data required to unlock it. Even with the key, if the volume gets fucked up, you're probably never going to get data from it.
