I was paddled in kindergarten in Minnesota back in 96... then we moved to Kentucky and they did not paddle in schools down here. They are allowed to they just don't. Not all southern states do this.

I went to middle school at a small town in Texas called Venus, Texas, back in 2003-2004. I remember having to give my aunt and uncle a form for them to sign if they allow the school to beat me if I act up. If they didn't sign, I would spend time in ISS for a day or week, depending on the infraction. I don't think corporal punishment ever went away, in the smaller towns atleast.

Each state has different weapon laws, but usually they only apply to guns. Knives are usually classified differently, and as such have different laws. Up until 2013 it was illegal to carry a switchblade with a blade over 5.5 inches for example, and the law that restricted swords, Bowie's, and other large blades was redacted and loses effect on September 1st. You still can't take them to a school, church or bar that serves alcohol, but it's a step in the right direction.
