Warsaw was declared a fortress city by the Polish army and was given three chances to surrender peacefully. If it had it would have been treated like Paris. As it was the Polish military denied any semblance of reason and forced Germany's hand. Bombing a fortress city into submission is completely within the rules of warfare. Blame the Poles for their arrogance - the bombing of Warsaw in 1939 could have been easily avoided.
