I formed basically 90% of my musical preferences during a 5 year stretch in the late 90s/early 2000's. During that time country wasn't my wheelhouse, I was basically brainwashed by the media into loving rap, but I did enjoy other popular songs of that era.
It's sorta funny though, as I've grown older I now know that the only reason I liked those rap songs was because the beat was good. Turns out almost all those beats I liked were straight up stolen from earlier songs. Who would have guessed it!
