We are living in an economic collapse right now (which we saw the beginning of in 2008/2009), but change won't happen overnight. Instead you'll see it becomes more and more common to be without a job. Companies are down-sizing. People start eating out less. They start growing their own food in the spring, to supplement their diet. You will see more people starting to repair broken stuff instead of buying new ones.
As for armed conflict, that is unlikely to happen on a large scale. Sure, if people become desperate enough there might be pockets of violent outbursts that would still be taken care of by law enforcement.
Only once law enforcement stop responding to 911-calls will you see people pushing the bar of what's acceptable and allowed. They might steal from their neighbors or try to rape someone. That's when people will take the law into their own hands.
