People are more likely to invest in their future than treat shelter like an investment, so (((they))) abuse this along with the fact these loans can be given without current employment since it's assumed you'd rather study hard and make your return later.

This fails because it's being used instead as a diversity program:google.com.au/amp/www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/black-women-become-most-educated-group-in-us-a7063361.html?amp in which these degrees do not lead to careers.

Basically making truly fake money off the expense of people taking degrees for actual career pathways.

((what the fuck do you think?))

baby boomers got jobs at colleges then automated all the jobs

The availability of federal student loans.

I know for dental school and med school it's because they are very safe bets for returns on loans for the government and private companies. Therefore, the schools will jack up prices because they know the demand is so high and that students will grudgingly take out loans to go. It's a win for schools and a win for the lenders.

The free availability of unsecured student loans to everyone, regardless of academic proficiency or ability to pay, made going to college accessible to everyone rather than those who pursued scholarships. This led to a glut of new students, which required rapid expansion of campuses, which drove tuition up. The cycle is reaching its breaking point, which is why the left is screaming for college to be free.

They wouldn't need to make it free if they hadn't fucked it up in the first place.

student loans

A bottleneck of demand that the (((education system))) caused and drilled into this generation.

Our parents told us that if we didnt go to college and get fancy jobs that we would be failures, so everyone went to college instead of the borderline stupid people going out and working their way from the bottom like our parents did. So every barista, tradesman, retail worker etc has a degree that they don't need because they got beat out in their field of study and had to do something to pay the bills.

These.

I think a lot of people agree that it was the decision of turning university tuition into a financialised debt commodity. An overall terrible decision as it encapsulates the notion of public-debt-private-profit but as long as the government underwrites the debt book, it's essentially another bond which bean counters can keep off of the books.

Quite why we need to fund universities to such a level isn't terribly obvious, - the real cost of educating people to university level is a fraction of what goes into the tuition, however there is something to be said of the soft-power a strong tertiary education system can exert in international situations.

This is the correct answer, the fourish years that some of these people spent in college would have been way better spent getting job experience

at some point people are going to have to accept the fact that they personally failed themselves and didnt try hard enough.
blaming the world for you current state is alot easier than man-ing up to failure.
t. debt free tradesman with no degree

ps: liberal arts is not a degree, its toilet paper. you deserve the crushing debt if you fell for that shit.

The same thing that caused healthcare to be so expensive: you're paying for it with borrowed money.

Incorrect. Colleges here sell an "experience"; partying, relaxing, drinking for 4+ years while "earning a degree". Milennials have been done a great disservice by this because they extend their childhoods by a 4-10 year window but then end up almost 30 with no job prospects, no basic professional capacity, and no sense of self.

Bunch of yammering, egotistical party-children is essentially what they are, for the most part, who have never had to earn anything in their lives (Public or Private school since literally child, all the way paid for by someone else until they're almost 30). The minute the real world demands they sacrifice, pay, work hard, give up their own life, time, and effort to get something, they throw their hands up in the air like helpless babes and cry or attack the system as 'unfair'

There's always exceptions. A lot like border jumpers; 'some are upstanding people'.

Government pays for student loans so either way the uni gets paid, they have no incentive to lower costs.

This money helps fund bloated administrations. The number of administrators is the only thing that has correlated with tuition over the past 30 years. Go look up your school's payroll and see how much they pay to non-faculty. Look at how many staff a Diversity department has. The universities are getting free money from the government which they use to increase the size of their administrations

Administrative bloat.

Once the blue haired snowflakes realize they can't get shit for their qomyn studies degree, they demand employment in the bursar or registrar or whatever the fuck rar and print people's degrees and make coffee and shitpost on tumblr and MSNBC comments sections.

Look at any major university budget. Over the last 30 years prof salaries have been quite similar adjusted for inflation but number of administrators has exploded. That's why it keeps getting more expensive. Gotta keep the SJWs happy.

also a tradesman here, I dont really disagree with what you are saying and I'm not calling trade workers stupid. My point is that baby boomer parents all thought their jobs were shit and created a culture where trade work and other jobs were undesirable. Which is wrong and retarded. I got an MBA on scholarships and learned soon after in the real world that trade work is where actual money is because people our age dont want to do it

Federally backed student loans

>administrative bloat
This is the correct answer.

And this.

you know (((what)))

The Jews

>What exactly has caused college to become so insanely expensive in the US?

You are asking the wrong question. The answer to that is obvious: demand exploded and supply couldn't keep up. The question to ask is: Why did everyone start going to college?

The answer to this is de-industrialization of the USA following free trade, tariff reduction and globalism. College used to be cheaper because you could make a good living without it. Now you can't, so it has become expensive. But its worse - now college is getting lower and lower ROI because 1: these academic and technical fields (with a notable exception of a few very hard ones) are themselves becoming saturated and 2: education has become watered down to some extent.

no way to fix it really, just have to wait for either a collapse or a paradigm shift (like the industrial revolution)

Also Sup Forums should add SPQR flag

Gotta pay those unionized, tenured, communist professors lavish salaries. As a bonus paying for courses that have zero to do with your major.

the jews

This and this

>People are more likely to invest in their future
This doesn't explain the implosion of technical schools and community colleges, nor the rise in dropouts

>so (((they))) abuse this

Your chart is the mirror image of the dollar collapse chart.

I defaulted 10 years ago because society wouldn't allow me to work in my degree, so fuck 'em. fuck every last one of them to death.

People willing to pay more for it.

(((college)))

Further education is all a meme nowadays, most degrees are completely useless and the costs are insane.

Do something useful and learn a trade or something.

Do you know where you are? No one here doesn't understand this. Go back to r/thedonald

>I read the video title, therefore I know everything the video discusses! :^)
go back to fucking r/2ndgrade

Government loans to students. Schools charge whatever they want, government pays the bill, student owes the government.

communists making it worthless and communists hijacking the government in order to give everyone a worthless education

>Have full ride to uni
>Study whatever the fuck I want /no debt/
>Currently enjoying life, only the normal amount of depression
>TFW people are suicidal and depressed spending $100,000+ for same worthless Liberal Arts degree; making them want to kill themselves more.

watched the whole thing, holy shit taxpayers will pay for the aforementioned free college? What the fuck I hate bernie sanders now

Title 9 necessitated a huge investment in administrators and killed accessibility while simultaneously stifling intellectual freedom.

user
i posted the video 5 minutes ago
it's a 19 minute video
what are you on

There is no implosion, it's a lie, we've done well making sure most white men apply to STEM purely to make feminists sweat. Keep it up.

What's happening is that underemployment is huge for white male STEM graduates and when this gets out feminism will be considered an evil for centuries.

>rise in dropouts
Again, you pretend white men don't exist then yes, women and minorities are dropping out of STEM, especially "cool Asians" who actually think they're not on par to niggers and actually drank the east Asians are always smarter than whites Chinese communist party koolaid.

>implosion
Bullshit.

They're just struggling to get jobs. Keep applying, keep making feminists sweat.

Was that video made 5 minutes ago?

In the 1970s student loans were made non-dischargeable in bankruptcy court. That is a sure bet for the lender. It caused gigantic amounts of money to pour into the student loan industry. Students borrowed all this money and bid up the price of college. Tuition expanded like a sponge to soak up all this money.

an average car was about 6 or 7 grand in 1978. now it's closer to 30. that' more than a 94% increase. bad chart is bad.

...

That's it. The gov't flooded the market with dollars that could only be spent on education with easy financial aid. The logical outcome was hyperinflation in educational expenses.

By overwhelming response the correct answer is student loans.
In a more general view, the same thing that also caused the housing boom / bubble and the skyrocketing health insurance costs. Liberals try to manipulate financial structures to make these things more "affordable." But they are clueless about basic supply and demand dynamics. With housing, they manipulated banks to ease lending requirements and in so doing the supply of buyers who could get mortgages exploded and house prices, predictably, went through the roof.

I propose we jew the jews.
Borrow the max amount at the lowest rate.
Put it all in the stock market and see the average of 13% annual gain. You won't have to pay back for at least four years.
Has anyone attempted this ??!!

THIS

Government guaranteed loans.

I only read 10 responses and they were dumb enough to make me not want to read the rest, anyone here that didn't immediately say "Government Subsidies" needs to take an Econ 101 class on YouTube

construction on campus. colleges continually build new facilities to attract new students

thats funny because there were posts in the first 10 that literally didnt say that

That's why I stopped reading

lol subsidies make people go to college, this is some fresh shitposting. Summer is almost over lads

my guy friends
>engineering/CS: doing fairly well, 1 got divorce raped by
my girl friends
>anthropology, nature studies, poly sci
divorce raped ex to pay for masters degree, plans on husband paying for her college debt, 3rd one got all her money from parents, doesn't stay in jobs too long

Are you literally retarded? The government guarantees the loans, so literally anyone can get a loan of just about any amount, thus colleges have zero incentive to not arbitrarily raise tuition. If the government didn't guarantee the loans, banks would use a little more discretion and colleges would have an incentive to keep costs and prices down.

Inflation shows up in some assets before others

...

This its a scam or what is called in economics a bubble and not the good kind.

because people are willing to pay it

Because you can get loans to pay for it, which means you are able to pay more for it.

government subsidies on both the university side and the student side...sort of like with healthcare...also the services are starting to suck because of it, were getting less for more

then factor in the degree degradation effect, you know the one that has entry level jobs in sales and insurance requiring a 4 year degree even if that degree is unrelated just because there are so many people floating around with one.

Were giving degrees to idiots because its a right and were suppose to help poor people, but all its doing is making that degree worthless, all while saddling people with $25-$75k debt. College grads get $30-$50k a year, which adjusted for inflation is what a high school grad would of gotten in the past.

Its basically a scam and if your somewhat smart and like to be active there is an easy and cheap way out, go get a vocational certification, youll eventually own your own small business if you have some grey matter and your friends with degrees will be jealous in 10 years when their capping out at $65-$75k and hate what they do and the fact they are a bitch to someone with an ivy league degree or mba while you are your own boss.

Exception of course is for people who actually should go to college, get a STEM degree, are smart enough to warrant getting one, and make a difference in their field of study....which are the only people who should be going to college...the gifted....

Same here lol

Basically government backed student loans, as others have said. Schools charge whatever they want, students think it's a ticket to a career so they agree to it. Milliennials are special snowflakes so they want dumbass degrees in fashion design and theater arts, schools see it as a way to boost enrollment so they fuck it and offer these useless programs. Bigger schools are forced to compete for brightest students, but once again since there were all millienials they spent millions and millions of dollars upgrading the quad and putting a stupid rock climbing wall on campus instead of bolstering the academic programs that legitimately offer students a future. That's the long answer...

For the short answer... Jews.
