There's a bunch of other shit. Awan and two of his brothers were making $100K/yr+ as house IT staffers. One of his brothers was in his early 20s, and the money was way out of the norm for what other IT staffers were paid.
The house committee on foreign intelligence reports that they have noticed improper access of data including copying of sensitive data to a remote unauthorized server. in Feb 2017, all three lose their VPN access to the House IT network, but Imran awan (Just arrested) on payroll while alleging the investigation is racially motivated. one of the brothers is fired immediately when this comes out.
meanwhile, the three brothers ran a car dealership, two of the brothers have had money trouble (including car repossession and bankruptcy). one of the brothers, Abid, paid $160K/yr for IT staffing, has enough time to run a car dealership on the side. the dealership has spotty accounting and either a fake loan from an iraqi national or a loan from an iraqi national in excess of $100K for the dealership at a time at which Abid had access to sensitive data via the house network. Abid declares bankruptcy personally in 2012 and the dealership goes bankrupt too.
part of the charges against the brothers also includes equipment theft.
so Imran Awan and his wife go for a home equity line of credit against a second property they have. they tell the credit union it's their primary home. in reality, it is a rental property. this is materially misleading because rental properties are higher risk. fewer institutions are willing to give loans for them and when loans are given they aren't under as good of terms (amount of loan, interest rate, etc.)...
Then within days of getting the home equity line of credit, Imran wires nearly $300K to pakistan (basically most of his income). this is in Jan of 2017, before Imran is reported on and loses his access to house IT systems.

The feds stop and inspect person/property, finding out she has over $10K in cash on her person, food, clothing, and household goods. basically it's obvious she's running. they let her go and note that she has a ticket to come back to the US in September 2017, but they know it's highly unlikely she or the kids will ever return to the US.
Imran in the meantime is getting paid but his access is suspended, he knows his wife got caught on the way out. he buys a flight in mid-July, several weeks out. when he goes to take the flight, he is stopped and arrested on the basis of the misrepresentation to get the loan.

the tl;dr is that an insurance company is suing Abid for having used fraudulent means to get himself listed as the beneficiary under an insurance policy instead of the guys wife. when the guy died, Abid was paid out $50,000 USD.
on top of that, a relative of the three brothers says that Imran Awan. basically this person (Samina) could not find her husband (and the three brothers' father). the three brothers block her from seeing him in the hospital without their permission. one of the three brothers plants recording devices in her home.
then when the kids won't tell her where her husband is, she calls the local police. the local cops and one of the brothers (abid) talk. Abid says it's a family issue. After the police arrive Imran shows up and tells Samina if she ever calls the cops again he will harm her and have her family members in Pakistan kidnapped. Imran also admits that the recording devices are there and he will remove them.
