pic related put it nicely, basically the guy who made the original Kony 2012 movie lost his mind and was caught jerking himself off in public and then noone wanted to be associated with the movement anymore because it was too embarrassing
also it turns out that "raising awareness" is a big waste of everyones time that accomplishes nothing. while many people expressed their support for the movement by clicking buttons on social media too few of these people would commit their time, money or lives to actually going to africa and hunting down Kony and the LRA. who could have seen that coming?
similar thing happened with those kidnapped nigerian schoolgirls. michelle obama took a picture of herself holding a bit of paper with #bringbackourgirls written on it. meanwhile the nigerian army actually go out into the bush and try to murder as many boko haram soldiers as they can
