Well, the study relied entirely on self-identification of the person being called, and the overwhelming majority of people are reluctant to give out personal details about who they are (no surprises there). If I had to guess, I'd say it's because the kind of people who answer these surveys are mainly the elderly and when young people answer them, they're interested in pushing the statistics towards one outcome or another. A great many of our respondents were self-identified as white and black people, who also self-identified as muslims.

I don't think acceptance and discouragement are mutually exclusive. When exceptions happen, let them do what they want as long as they're not hurting people, but you should still do what you can to encourage behavior that's more long-term beneficial to society in children. Simply tolerating something isn't the same thing as encouraging it.
