God did, I think

I want to get into heaven

Every good deed I have ever done was not because I'm a good person, I'm just investing in my future, I've never done a good thing because I wanted to actually help anyone, I'm just selfish, obviously I can totally keep that from God, he won't ever know what my true intentions were lmao :')

Nothing made me believe in God, I choose to believe in God because it allows me to acknowledge things that my human brain can't directly perceive.

I look at how the earth works, how the plants look, how food tastes, how animals behave, how the human body to us looks so normal and with the increasing proof that we're alone on this "thing" (whatever you want to call it), I just came to the conclusion that I hope there's something better than what's on this shithole planet.

Being raised in a Southern Baptist family can be literal hell.

>Don't want to go to church on sunday, or Sunday night, or Wednesday night? Go to your room and get ready for your father's belt.

>Those movies are evil user you are not allowed to watch them

>You can't have friends they might be faggots and try and rape you

>You are not allowed to bring your slutty girlfriends over

>user I found your porn and have had a talk with the pastor's wife. She would like to see you.

>You want to talk back? Belt to the face.

>Your therapist says you need help and so we are going to send you to a camp for special people just like you.

I could go on and on.

Seems like the pattern here is choosing to believe, because its comforting.

Is it possible at all to reach the conclusion that God exists through logic?

god did.

but first i ate some super rare strain of pscyhedelic mushrooms and drank a tropicana so even if i told anyone, nobody would believe me.

tell

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Having this debate is a waste of time. Either God exists or He doesn't. Search your feelings and decide for yourself. One way or another you'll find out when you die. How sad it will be for you if you choose unwisely. Regardless of that which you choose to believe, live a moral and just life. Don't be a degenerate.

How pissed will you when you realize that mudslides were right and now you'll be going to hell while they fucked virgins all eternity?

difficulties in life

Won't we all? Good thing they aren't right. It's not a religion of peace.

That's not how heaven works. You don't buy your way in with good deeds.

A French monastery by the sea the beauty helped me become a desit from there I converted to Catholicism for cultural reasons (I am French) Not an active Religiosity but Jordan B Peterson Bible lectures are some of the most deep shit I listen too.

Lots of things, I don't know if I can pinpoint it to one specific thing.

The universe and all that is in it is just so extremely complex. Even the simplest living organism is not simple at all.

I've had occurrences in my life that seem to be more than just coincidental.

The Bible has stood the test of time and been passed on for thousands of years, with all sorts of manuscripts to confirm this.

Christ's apostles went all across the world spreading the Gospel, telling the world what they had seen, even in the face of death. In the first century, the apostle Thomas made it to India and started a community of Christians that survives to this day.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Thomas_Christians

so do you actually believe in the existence of God?

Getting quads on a quality post.

If anything matters then everything matters.
Read the Christian apologetics and they'll hit you with some pretty serious logic. Your options boil down to belief in god or belief in nothing which is a belief that cannot be said to be important because if true then your own belief, all thought, is meaningless.
If all thought is meaningless there is no good or bad.
Experience tells me that there is a good and bad. The fact that I poses the ability to think is divine in and of itself. Since thought is not meaningless there must be some intrinsic value to thought, or logos, itself. Logos meaning the logic, rationality, the ability to reason and think that we humans alone possess. The divine soul.
And the bible opens with the following phrase which has been misinterpreted, "in the beginning there was the word and the word was with God and the word was God." So really it said in the beginning there was the logos, and the logos was with God and the logos was God.
"Word" here is about as close to a word for logos as we have. But it doesn't quite do it justice. It's one of those passages most people know, few think about, and even less understand.

>What made you believe in God?

i still dont believe in god just got out of my retarded fedora faze and moved on to agnosticism.

Listen, I know that gods exist. Not just your god, but plenty of other gods.

But I CHOOSE to not worship any of them, because I want man to become the next god of this universe.

Get on my level you godslave plebs.

The fact that I dont want to part from my wife forever.

>And the bible opens with the following phrase

That's from the Gospel of John, but the point you're making about it being overlooked is pretty key.

Another verse I really like.

John 8:58 (KJV)
"Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am."

You'll be praying to Allah soon

Sure why not?

ok, I was wondering because you described yourself as a cultural catholic. I've seen people describe themselves as "cultural Christians" when they don't even believe in God, much less Christ.

>What made you believe in God?
The limits of logic did.

Understandable, how I do have grievances with the church and the pope hence the "cultural" thing. But my homeland needs a better and stronger church to help against the rising of Islam

well I don't trust the Pope either. I'm a Christian, not a Catholic.

I used to, but now idk. Either God hates me, he doesn't exist or i'm a work of satan.

Hope in there being something after death and just how cucked atheist are.

>Even the simplest living organism is not simple at all.

It is when you are not a brainlet

>it is when you are not a brainlet

t. brainlet

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_(biology)

>Cells consist of cytoplasm enclosed within a membrane, which contains many biomolecules such as proteins and nucleic acids
>There are several types of organelles in a cell. Some (such as the nucleus and golgi apparatus) are typically solitary, while others (such as mitochondria, chloroplasts, peroxisomes and lysosomes) can be numerous (hundreds to thousands).
>hundreds to thousands

Interesting, makes me think about Origins of Consciousness and the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind.

What apologetic books would you suggest?

Sup Forums and degeneracy ironically.
It's when you realize why Catholicism has all these "bigoted" and "harsh" rules that you can truly appreciate them for what they are.

I'll drink to that man, cheers

This pretty much

I call him The Architect. He doesn't really give a shit, so why call him God.

He put things in motion and then went on to his next experiment. Nothing matters bro.

>He doesn't really give a shit,

wrong. Check out the Bible sometime.

>The Architect

Indoctrination from a very young age.
Then I grew up and stopped believing in such nonsense.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Architect_of_the_Universe

Now imagine me standing in lodge with my head bowed in prayer between Brother Mohammed Bokhary and Brother Arjun Melwani. To neither of them is the Great Architect of the Universe perceived as the Holy Trinity. To Brother Bokhary He has been revealed as Allah; to Brother Melwani He is probably perceived as Vishnu. Since I believe that there is only one God, I am confronted with three possibilities:

They are praying to the devil whilst I am praying to God;
They are praying to nothing, as their Gods do not exist;
They are praying to the same God as I, yet their understanding of His nature is partly incomplete as indeed is mine — (1 Cor 13:12)

t.freemason

and who is even mohammed bokhary? are you referring to bukhary the hadith collector? the hadith are a fabrication, how unfortunate that most muslims follow them

honestly, why would he take the bible serious? it doesn't even get the creation right
>inb4 le metaphor

"God" is undefined. (((It))) exists...

A priest was on here yesterday and gave a proof of God's existence. Here's the link:

I'm happier and more inclined to be a better person when I believe in God.

Yes, read your Bible and plz tell me who killed more people, "God" or Satan?

So if you actually believe the bible etc, seems kinda ridiculous to pray / worship such a jealous murderer, doesn't it?

There's just too many [good] connotations with word "God" that it cannot be used objectively.

More fitting to call him "The Architect".

pic related

God didn't get the story of God creating the universe right.

>implying that your code of morality is the correct one

Tell me more about how plants were created before the sun, or birds before land animals

Calling bullshit.

My hatered for people and my hope that he will send them all to hell

shiggy diggy doo

Sounds about right, 'murrican protestantism is degeneracy

I'd say purposeful creator, not god. The flat earth is an obvious proof.

> purposeful creator, not god.

that's just semantics though.

the devil.

I became a Christian theist due to the absurdity of the contrary.

and why exactly a christian one? why is anything outside of christianity absurd?

my mom and dad
when i became my own individual i stoped believing

Life's always been a little hard for me. Religion has given me a purpose in life and its a good way to feel less lonely. Faith is a powerful thing it's given me things I do not deserve and because of that I owe God my allegiance as both my creator and my provider.

>It's when you realize why Catholicism has all these "bigoted" and "harsh" rules that you can truly appreciate them for what they are.

Bigoted rules like what, swell your ranks with brown and black people and support refugees?

come on, it doesn't even allow the use of contraception, that goes a bit too far doesn't it?

I don't believe in God.

None of those old stories from the Middle East are true. Not Judaism, not Christianity, not Islam.

There could be a higher power, but there is no fucking gay ass God who appeared in the Middle East to a bunch of hook-nosed kikes and Arabs.

Contraception is wrong though. It only exists so that people can fuck without natural consequence, and perpetuates promiscuity

Considering your flag, can I address Islam alone for the sake of expedience?

Why not have your cake and eat it too? Just outlaw adultery. Democratically of course. Or would you really call intercourse between a two married people promiscuity?

> All these memelords ITT
A more serious answer would be the apologetics of someone like Alvin Plantinga, or Peter Kreeft, or any of the neo-scholastic Thomists.
see I didn't come to understand this for a long time.

Sure go ahead, but I don't see how Islam being wrong validates the truthfulness of christianity.

coming from a church that fucks little kids. where mother and child homes were set up by the church and then the babies being killed and buried without most of it going on record.
>ya sure listen to the fucked up church about where to stick your dick and what to put on it

The historicity of the New Testament and how it's the most reliable historical account of the time period. Even more so than the contemporary historians. Also how they all speak of a man being resurrected where people went out and told this occurrence in the threat of being killed. And despite this, the religion flourished.

It flourished because it states the self-evident truth that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We feel this shame of sin almost every day. But God while being rich in mercy died for us that we may be saved. That whoever believes in him, Jesus, will have everlasting life.

In nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.

>implying I'm Catholic

I answer to God, not some queer in a funny hat.

Summa Theologica.

There have been eye reports of multiple people witnessing things like aliens and UFOs, what makes this one different?

Juan, married people use contraception as well you know.

never said anything against (you) its the church i despise too.. for a group that speaks in symbology they really make it look like they worship the snake fuck them they all deserve to hang

I believe in God but he abandoned us long ago. And I can not blame him for it.

this. checked for the truth

Nothing, because i don't.

Psychedelic drugs.

Orthodoxy is the true way

That Jesus performed miracles where they indicated the specific city and sometimes specific people so that people could later verify this and come to belief. Also that he appeared to all of his disciples (which is actually more than 12). In 1st Corinthians 15:6, Paul states that Jesus appeared to over 500 people after his resurrection which was passed down to Paul by the early church. The first 100 years of the church would have people that either saw the resurrected Jesus, had family that did, or trusted the accounts of people who said they did.

Not to say there may not actually be UFOs because it certainly could be true but this is a much different phenomenon. UFOs will only appear to a few people at separate occurrences making the reliability of these accounts not substantial compared to the citing of the resurrected Jesus. Plus, UFO spotters are more likely to be charlatan because they don't risk life. However, the early church was persecuted for their beliefs. Christianity was first outlawed by the Roman Empire and Jews turned Christians away from the synagogues. Christians were fed to Lions and crucified. All 12 apostles were martyred for their beliefs (except St. John). You don't see UFO believes being so stuck to their beliefs that they are willing and are killed for it.

Question for godfriends, how do you get around the problem of evil, specifically natural evils?

I can accept that moral evil (murder, hate, etc) can be explained by moral agents having free will, but free will doesn't explain natural evils like the fact that we can get cancer and die painfully at a young age.

I believe that if god is all powerful all knowing and all good then he could have done a better job making this world a place with less arbitrary suffering from things like disease and natural disasters.

If I could get around this question then I'd have an easier time believing in god, but all the answers I've gotten have either been in the vein of "He works in mysterious ways" implying that there's a great plan that's beyond our capacity to understand or "It's the best possible world" implying that a world where people didn't get cancer would somehow be worse than the current one.

Just don't tell me to pray for answers because that's not answering my question.

i dont think he did. i think (((they))) are hiding him from us
old testament: morning star = lucifer
>new testament: morning star = jesus

Maybe because he trusts us enough, it was time to go.

Supposedly lethal does of psychedelics

because i'm afraid of people posting pictures of fedoras at me

learn basic english syntax before you try to present the new testament as the most reliable historical text of all time

>the fact that we can get cancer and die painfully at a young age.
Funny enough, cancer is often tied to environmental causes. Humans dying of human mistakes.

>he could have done a better job making this world a place with less arbitrary suffering from things like disease and natural disasters.

Why though? Why do you think God owes us anything?

I was raised an atheist. Not a radical atheist, just an upbringing that was completely devoid of church, religion, spirituality.

One day at age of 26 I'm halfway around the world in some tropical jungle and the sky opens up dumps a rainstorm and I hopped into some little no-name restaurant (literally) where the staff is pair of old Asian women who don't speak a single word of English (and I don't speak a single word of whatever chink language of theirs) and they don't even have an actual menu, but they know I'm Mr. American Moneybags and get me the good stuff.

I sat there with a gigantic beer and plateful of authentic Chinese food watching the rainstorm and I knew, at that exact moment, that God was awesome. I had never sought God, I have never reasoned an argument for or against God. There was no consideration, drive, or desire. I had the fresh knowledge of all of modern science in my head- from Einstein's Relativity, QFT, to meteorology, biology, astronomy, and material science, and the conclusion wasn't that God *existed*. The conclusion was that God was *awesome*.

Absolutely - and that would be a larger undertaking, since different brands of religion may falter for different reasons.

In the case of Islam, to be succinct, it passes on coherent metaphysics, so the question is whether or not doctrine holds.

Islam
Confirms Torah/Bible as they existed during the time of Muhammad are divinely revealed word of God, same as the Quran. Sura 3:3-4, 5:47, 5:68

No one can change the words of god. Sura 18:27

Torah/Bible are to authenticate the Quran. Sura 10:94

Left with only to conclusions.
The Bible is the authoritative uncorrupted word of God, in which case (given doctrinal contrary claims, Christ's death/resurrection, versus no death Sura 4:157) Islam is false.

If The Bible is not the inspired authoritative word of God (corrupted), then Islam self defeats as the divinely revealed incorruptible word of God has been corrupted. Islam is false.

If the Quran stood on some other authority beside the incorruptible word of God it might be different, but that's about all it has going for it. Advocacy (prophecy) for Muhammad/Quran in Torah/Bible texts is tenuous, where prophecy of Christ was overwhelming.

I also might be more accommodating if there was significant reason to believe Biblical doctrine had somehow been corrupted AFTER Muhammad (although the same dilemma exists but that would muddy both players). Integrity of the gospels go back to first century, with apostolic ministries being dated in Jerusalem within 5 years of the Crucifixion - read: three days after the death of Jesus, but we can't really be more specific than 5 years. Anyone could have verified the empty tomb, which the Quran does not account for.

Sorry it took me a minute. Make no mistake: God is of ultimately importance. Whoever He is, there is nothing more valuable than seeking and understanding Him.

Nigger please. Southern Baptist and Pentecostals keep it real. Other denominations pale in comparison.

Great question user. It seems you've done some research into this as well.

The best explanation I've heard is in a word: perseverance.

To go back, the Christian story is that this world is cursed by man's disobedience to God. This curse affects every living thing and is the reason for the natural evils. This is convolutibly done because Satan is the one that now has power over the Earth. Here it would seem God is not all-powerful but he can intercept and overcome the power of Satan when he chooses (the miracles of Jesus and the resurrection of Jesus.)

However, him creating Satan with knowledge that he will desire to be like God and destroy humans, and also to let Satan have his wish by giving him dominion over the world would appear that God is not all-loving. However, I believe God uses Satan and the evils of this world to shape each and every one of us. It is through these trials that makes us each utterly unique. God loves us and loves this uniqueness of us. Now, these trials may only contribute slightly to our uniqueness. Another reason could be the utter joy that will be experienced when God will finally abolish Satan and his minions and bring everlasting peace to the Universe. If we didn't first experience hardships, disease, and death, the realization of true peace wouldn't really be all that great. I didn't do that last point that great of a justice though. CS Lewis' book Mere Christianity does a great job explaining this.
