True liberals should be willing to have their beliefs challenged and be willing to defend their beliefs to others. If they feel that they were wrong in their initial judgment about something, they should be able to admit their mistake and adjust their way of thinking based on what they've learned.
Too often these days, the majority of people who consider themselves to be liberals are willing to do neither.

Or he just never looked into any of it. Most people have no idea about politics, they treat it like a sport - they just pick their "favorite" team and then agree with their meme positions, without having any actual idea about the topics at all.
When they start actually getting invested into it for one reason or another they are fairly prone to doing a 180° on almost everything because there was never any conviction behind their original positions.
