I own an e-commerce site. I usually gross about 20K a month. I had an idea, found a niche, did my research, and started out on eBay about 8 years ago. I only use my own site since about 7.5 years ago. My markup is pretty high, so I net about 12K a month after shipping.
I made a 6500 dollar sale today that's going to net me about 5K for a few hours of work.

my best advice is NEVER follow advice from people on the internet.
if anyone here wants to make a lot of money, just do freelance developer work -- I have been at it for a few years and its not uncommon to get 80-100 an hour for certain gigs
the difficult part is, alot of your work will come from referrals so you need to work very hard for almost peanuts when you start off, other than that, get a couple of online courses and you'll be about as well off as someone who did a degree.
