Benghazi is at the very core of what the Clinton Foundation was dealing with when Clinton was Sec of State. She took bribes when the arms deal for opposition in Libya/Syria was denied by the gov, and made it happened under the desk anyway.
Arms that later ended up killing US soldiers, including a downed chopper. The arms went to jihadis during the arabic spring.
To cover up the colossal fuck up they ordered an attack on Benghazi to destroy the only connection between them and the illegal arms deal with the jihadis. If you go through the actual hearings it's pretty clear they knew about the incoming attack and had been spotted meeting with the attackers just days before, if I remember correctly Blumenthal was one of the guys on the scene.
The ambassador was a sacrificial lamb, an asset that knew too much.
