BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:30 A.M.) – The battle for Deir Ezzor is still months away, but the current clashes taking place across the Syrian Desert are providing a frightening glimpse into what is to come in the near future.
The Islamic State (ISIL) has lost a significant amount of territory in central and northern Syria; however, this was expected given the vast amount of desert landscape that was under their control.
With the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) closing in on the town of ‘Uqayrbat in east Hama, the Islamic State decided to send a large number of their forces from this region to the Homs-Deir Ezzor provincial border.
ISIL’s reinforcements didn’t waste time getting acclimated, as their forces gave the Syrian Arab Army the first taste of what is to come once the battle for Deir Ezzor begins.
Islamic State fighters stormed the SAA’s positions in the Humaymah area, killing a total of 22 soldiers and wounding more than 40 others that were participating in the battle.
While the Syrian Army was able to fend off the ISIL assault, their casualty toll was demoralizing for the troops deployed in this region.
The days of ISIL retreating to the desert are now over; they have nowhere to go anymore, as Deir Ezzor becomes their last stomping ground in Syria.
BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:05 A.M.) – The Syrian and Russian air forces received a big boost in the fight against the Islamic State this year, following the liberation of the Jirah Military Airbase in eastern Aleppo.
According to a military source, the Jirah Airbase is once again operation after more than four years of being out of commission due to its capture by militants.
The Syrian and Russian air forces are using the Jirah Airbase’s helicopter fields to aid the Syrian Arab Army and their allies in the fight against the Islamic State in northeast Hama and southern Al-Raqqa.
With the Jirah Airbase operational again, the Syrian and Russian air forces now have two different working installations in east Aleppo.
BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:00 A.M.) – An Iranian soldier from the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) was killed in southeast Syria this week after being captured and executed by the Islamic State (ISIL) terror organization.
Mohsen Hojaji from Najaf Abad, Isfahan Province was the IRGC soldier that was captured and executed by the Islamic State forces near the Tanf Border-Crossing in southeast Syria this week.
The father of one was captured by ISIL after his unit was targeted near the town of Jumaymah in the Homs Governorate, the Islamic World News reported on Wednesday.
Hojaji was working in southeast Syria as a military adviser to Liwaa Fatemiyoun before his untimely death this week.
BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:05 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) resumed their assault in the eastern suburbs of Damascus this morning, targeting Faylaq Al-Rahman’s last positions inside ‘Ayn Tarma and Jobar.
Using surface-to-surface missiles, the Syrian Arab Army’s 42nd Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division heavily pounded Faylaq Al-Rahman’s positions in Jobar, causing significant damage to the militant defenses.
Following the bombardment, the Syrian Arab Army began their ground operation at 4:45 A.M. (Damascus Time), striking Faylaq Al-Rahman’s positions around the strategic Manasher Roundabout.
The Syrian Arab Army has been making significant progress inside of Jobar recently, capturing more than 20 building blocks over the last 48 hours.
Meanwhile, in neighboring ‘Ayn Tarma, the Syrian Arab Army’s 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard is heavily bombarding the suburb; however, there has been no movement on the ground.
The main objective of the Syrian Army is to force the remaining militants in these suburbs to surrender their positions and accept a transfer to Idlib, which is similar to previous agreements.

The source added that the rebels leaving Jaroud Faleeta for the eastern Qalamoun are members of Saraya Ahel Al-Sham; they were one of the largest militant factions near the Lebanese border.

For the Syrian Army, the liberation of Ma’adan will allow their forces to enter the Deir Ezzor Governorate’s northern axis for the first time in years.
Unfortunately, the road to Deir Ezzor City will ongoing get tougher once they cross the provincial border, as the governorate’s northern terrain is rather rough and difficult to navigate through.

I've talked about it before but DeZ is probably going to be the big break for ISIS. They're going to throw everything they have at it to try to seize the city, recruit the populace, and fortify it for the largest Pyrrhic loss they can pull off.

well... that's not true. there will be a check once their application for asylum will be processed.
however most of the time they state that they entered through another EU country which makes it easy to ignore their claim and only tolerate their stay here. most of the people that thought they were clever to lie about their nationality will have trouble in 2-3 years once the machine reaches their application... or their period of toleration ends... (this process will be sped up in the next months)
in the mean time we will have wasted millions in benefits and language courses on them but that's the way things work here. they also will have trouble to ever file for citizenship here again in the future.
