Emotional Intelligence

Is emotional intelligence a real thing or is it just a meme?

I mean, are there any actual studies that support the concept of emotional intelligence?

I would assume that's intellect related to understanding and controlling your emotions.

It's relatively simple with training and therapy depending on mental attributes e.g. temperament.

But it's not comparable with what is considered fluid intelligence.

very real, extreme example:
there was a super smart business man who lost emotions after brain trauma - and lost emotional intelligence too - he wen bankrupt quickly cause he couldn't make the right decisions anymore

Do you know his name?

That's a fucking meme made by women.

~500k results. Since 2010. Maybe do research instead of asking the mentally handicapped population of a malaysian underwater basket-weaving board?

If I was emotionally intelligent I'd answer.
Fucking Google it yourself you cunt

All intelligence is on some level "emotional intelligence." The emotions are a chemical tool that allows our subconscious minds to communicate things to our conscious minds that we otherwise might not see. Thus emotions play a key role in our values, philosophies, priorities and hence our ability to see, think, and find our place in the world.

That said, when people say they have "emotional intelligence," they are usually trying to convince themselves that they are somehow advantaged by their lack of analytical and reasoning ability -- as if these things are mutually exclusive.

In general, those who are brilliant in mathematics are not retarded in humanities; rather, they tend to be above average in all fields. The same is true vice-versa. Havig a high IQ tends to correlate with above average intelligence in most areas and extreme intelligence in a few.

> Google it.
Come on now, user

Donald J. Trump

>I know what the word emotion means
>I kinda understand what intelligence is
>I must be qualified to understand the term emotional intelligence even though I've never studied it in any way
God damn, user. Is this really how you think on a daily basis?

But then he can't reinforce the idea that it isn't real, fuckface. What do you think the point of Sup Forums is?

Yes, without empathy you can't figure out the context to a situation.

Maybe if you're a Betazoid.

A bunch of trumplets jacking each others micropeens?

>is x a real thing
>doesnt explain what x is
Fuck off summerfags, I was proxying this Burmese genociding forum before you were watching cuck porn

>I mean, are there any actual studies that support the concept of emotional intelligence?
Well, they are sociology "studies."
So no, there are no ACTUAL scientific data supporting this nonsense.

It is a very real thing.

It's also far more important than general intelligence.

Trump for example,is very emotionally intelligent, but his general intelligence is quite low-and look where that got him.

Psychologist here.
Its a meme. Bullshit construct like all those 9000 intelligence's. All of those are participation awards for people that dont score higher on General IQ.
Big G (general factor of intelligence) does have some subfactors like spacial reasoning, verbal reasoning, etc. but all of them are just subfactors and EQ is not one of them.

I would not suggest I am an expert on this topic, but please enlighten me as to where I went wrong.

The concept of "emotional intelligence" is not so hard to understand. You don't need to have done your PhD thesis on "emotional intelligence" to be able to say that it regards a person's natural ability and propensy to perceive and understand emotions. Just read the wikipedia article.

I claimed that this form of intelligence (as with essentially every form) is positively correlated with IQ. Now, if you do not believe a person's IQ has any predictive power or that it is not a valid measure of intelligence and reasoning abiliy, I can't help you there. The science is quite solid.

Finally:
> accuses me of poor reasoning and extrapolation
> ad hominem attack
> does not point out anything incorrect

Jordan Peterson has weighed in on this before.

I consider the people on this board to be very knowledgeable. After all, you're here.

Emotional intelligence? I don't even know what the fuck that means. That's the most mentally retarded thing I've heard.
