I'm a teacher and I use Google for everything. Google Search, Google Mail, Google Drive, Google Classroom, Google Docs, Google Sites. Everything. It's highly integrated into our school and into our entire district as a powerful educational tool. In the last 8 years that I've been teaching I have never had a problem with google and I don't have a problem with them now. While the idea behind that memo was sound it's presentation and voice was not appropriate. He deserved to be reprimanded for the negative publicity and should have been more careful with his word choice given his audience.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not a liberal snowflake Jew Google cuck lizard person. In biology every year I slip in evolutionary and physiological bases for gender and race. I instill in my students a respect for evidence over feelings and basically preach that psychology is an invalid basis for any conclusion because the entire field is so biased to the left.
But this? Come on. This is just you guys rushing to defend someone you feel an imaginary sense of solidarity with. I'm not going to go running to some shitty backwater search engine like DuckDuckGo just because Google fired a guy that caused them a publicity nightmare.

Linux is the Kernel, GNU is the surrounding stuff that makes it do more than flicker LEDS adn post status messages in black and white on the screen. ed, vi, emacs, tails, awk... thats GNU. You could NOT run Windows on Linux because both the win and Linux kernel would try to do the same thing at the same time using completely different ways. They would both try to handle system calls, incoming network traffic... You can however port one type of application (if FOSS) to another OS. So Linux apps could run with a windows kernel and Windows apps on a Linux kernel (after some rewriting)
