When a couple gets married, they publicly declare that they will 1) have sex exclusively with each other and 2) produce children only with each other. This is to reduce confusion among communities about the paternity of children and delegate the responsibility of child-rearing to the biological parents, not society as a whole.

This is why gay marriage makes no sense. Marriage is an institution not designed for homosexual couples that cannot produce children with each other. Gays asking for marriage equality is like a 90 year-old Chinese woman asking to have a bar-mitzvah. It is not designed for her.
