I've never taken a reputable IQ test, But I'm comfortable to assume my IQ rests in the 85+ 95- range.
If It's common and likely so, It'd be pretty understandable, Incompetence to conceive Incompetence would be a likely quality of those who lack the intelligence to otherwise perceive biases or perhaps just humility.
It's also possible that ego being more prevalent in today's people is another cause of ignorance of someones self conflated traits. Whilst I'd say intelligence is more easily proven through accurate self assessment, It may also be measured by ones ability to not let their IQ get to there head.
Point being, A proven fool has an excuse for his inflated ego, whist the proven intellectual does not. Yes, and in the case of social skills those who lack them of a high IQ could in practice learn, However the stupid lacks the intellect to learn beyond his intellectual compacity.

Academic performance, I'm dyslexic and hated school, I was careless, never sore the point. But I did on occasion try to prove my abilities only to find I sucked, I never understood shit others did with ease, and It fucked me up as a kid.
I hated people seeing my stupidity, it made me feel out of control and destined for a horrid life. so I would be comfortable saying I would do anything to inflate my intellect around others. at first this would be classic DKE I'd get myself into arguments without any experience in reasoning, and learnt the hard way.
But I think it was not all wasted energy, as instead of building only an illusory wall of intellect and avoiding actual constructive criticism, I started to realize the power of critical thinking. I questioned everything I thought I knew, and took every blow to my ego as a tool for further progress.
I'm a product of the average intellectual getting to his more capable point, there is always room for improvement but most of us just don't realize our potential, I was a victim of what I'd call intellectual oppression, based on nothing more then IQ
