The only significant causation that exists between states and IQ is based on racial demographics. The secondary causation is based on brain-drain, as in states that pull in more intelligent people compared to the average demographics due to institutions and industry but that's a far smaller causation.

Red states have lower IQ averages solely because they're substantially more comprised of non-whites: blacks, hispanics.
