It is a massive, continent-sized glacier miles thick, and for hundreds of miles there is nothing but flat, icy, windy, inhospitable conditions. The truth is, yes, we don't know very much about Antarctica. There could be an unknown species of ice-hominids adapted to the harshness of the climate, perhaps living underground. But we don't know virtually nothing. The wildlife gives us major discoveries as to how ecosystems work- the location gives us information about the poles. We learn about ocean currents and astronomy, even information from the thickness of the ice. Bacteria preserved dozens of meters underground inside of ice samples or even certain materials found in the ice give us an idea as to how life on Antarctica used to be. It is hypothesized that the continent used to be a lush, vegetated land during prehistoric times.
The only thing that could be fishy about it is the vast unknowingness of what lies underneath the ice. Or what might be lurking around on the icy plains.

It's lethally cold, not habitable or traverse-able without winterized facilities and support equipment. Also need a stable supply chain since nothing can really grow there besides lichen and moss. And even with all that, a single storm can fuck it all up and put you in a life-threatening situation.
There might be some exploitable resources but setting up the infrastructure and trying to maintain it is simply not worth it. All the other stuff is purely for scientific interest and countries aren't exactly eager to throw money at that.
