tell them that as stupid as nazis are/are willing to look for their cause, they had the right to voice their beliefs just as much as the BLM protestors or any other group in the US. tell them that the violence was unfortunate and should be reviled, but remind them that it was the leftist counter protestors who initiated the violence towards a protest group with a permit to be there.
I'd also blame identity politics, something along the lines of Charlottesville being the culmination of years and years of racial division under the obama administration.

How is that different from leftist protest groups showing up ready to swing? They always do. The group organizing the right wing protest at the park knew ahead of time that there were thousands of antifa/BLM folk slated to show up, so why not bring some battle rattle?
Besides, they had a permit to protest and there was a heavy police presence right from the beginning of their event. The police maced and hauled off Spencer before breaking up the protest into multiple smaller protests and then they conveniently vanished after giving Spencer the business, from which point the leftist groups initiated the violence.
