Following the lead of other environmental groups a social activist is demanding Buchanan County authorities remove the Coal Miner statue which currently stands in front of the county courthouse.
“If we join together, we can put an end to killing the planet and we all know what kind of damage coal has done to the environment, we need to start by removing that ridiculously offensive statue, not only is it offensive, its also promoting violence, the miner is holding a weapon” said Lynn Gore, founder of Worldly Hipsters Impacting New Environment .
Gore said WHINE will be holding a mass protest at the statue this Thursday at 10:00 am to demand the Grundy Town Council follow the groups lead and begin the process of taking the statue down.
"This is the first we’ve heard about this, but millenials these days are pretty crazy so it doesn’t surprise me,” a source on the Grundy Town Council who spoke to the Buchanan County Free Press on the condition of anonymity. “Besides being a beautiful tribute to area miners, the statue was a gift from the Girl Scouts, anyone who claims to be offended by it, is out of touch with reality."”
Not so, countered Gore.
“We are heavily offended by a monument that promotes destruction and violence. The fact that coal mining is harmful to the environment cannot be repudiated, the fact that we are offended by it cannot be either. Look it up on Google. You can’t deny the facts. And if you don’t see how this statue is promoting planetary destruction then you must be blind. Think about it, if you support that statue, you support coal, if you support coal, you support destroying the planet, if you support destroying the planet then that means you want to kill everyone alive, and that is evil. The town needs to remove the statue or we will stage more protests.”
When asked if the town Council will be making this a priority, our source said, “Not likely, we have more important things to worry about, like finding tenants for the empty locations at the Wal-Mart center."
