The wage gap exists because of such things as men and women generally working in different fields. Generally men end up going into STEM, while women will generally do things like teaching, social working, etc etc. STEM pays more so men end up getting more, but it's not because of some intrinsic "women get paid less than men no matter what". It's illegal to do that and if that is happening and you know of it you should report it to the authorities.
Salaries are not equal and never will be equal, so the best way to remedy that would be for women to get into STEM, instead of getting gender studies degrees. However, people do what they wish, live lives that they want, and that's what is important.
That's how I understand this so far, by the way. Tell me if it's otherwise, fellow anons.

This shouldn't be surprising. Just look at the specific jobs that women take vs the jobs men take. Take the medical field, for example. Most women in the medical field work as nurses, while more men are full-fledged doctors and surgeons. Naturally, there is going to be a pay discrepancy. Same with most STEM industries. Most engineering and science jobs are filled by men. When you have large numbers of women going to college, getting useless art and nutrition degrees or getting married and having minimalistic jobs, while a lot more men seek degrees in thriving fields and seek jobs that are in demand. While there are both men and women who break these trends, they are fairly consistent when summing up the general populace.
