Sure its great for wartime because you get no lip and everyone is supposed to be where their supposed to be on the order but when it comes to bringing productive change among the infrastructure as a whole there is not a lot of room to challenge or to implement checks and balances for what is actually good, effective, and efficient. You do this this way forever because that is what the instruction says and no one is going to make changes for a better way of doing things because no one gives a damn when you pass it up the food chain. Being a general is tough. Ideally you're politically neutral in a highly political position. Your only goal is making sure the military is effective as it can be and fits whatever the U.S.'s mission is at the time. I just think there are very few officers left with backbones to fit that ideal. The more officers bend to whoever is in power the more it fucks it up for future officers as they have to bend too or be fired.

Obama put in all the officers that would accept Women in combat roles, homosexuals, and transsexuals. Of those, I actually don't care about homosexuals being in. The other two are egregious in combat effectiveness. Which considering how colleges have been going... the new breed of officers have likely been tainted a bit with Marxism. You can even see it in how officers versus enlisted vote. Although it's not that bad yet. Gary Johnson being near the majority makes sense after being at war for almost 16 years.
