no. slavery was in the periphery and Lincoln used abolition as a political strategy so the British would not support the Confederacy.
It was about the relatively rich south paying more in taxes than it should have. They just wanted to not be told what to do similarly to how the original colonies told king George III to screw himself.

Civil War was about a multitude of things, mostly States Rights/Keeping the Union together.

One was a militia captain.
Another was a Colonel and participated in the last battle of the civil war; Battle of Palmito Ranch
And another was first a infantry lieutenant and later was a calvary captain and died in the battle of Mansfield
