It was made by and for jews. The working class was just the first group they tried to divide and conquer from their own nations. Now it's feminists, blacks, homos, muslims. Communism was an honest and serious attempt to respond to modernity. It was reevaluated in the 60's and 70's. Western Marxists revised the theory away from empiricism, deciding that empirical analysis of history and society was wrong, and switched from liberating human being from class to individualist liberation, which is basically reductio ad absurdum liberalism, which is why the two (marxism and liberalism) were able to combine into the New Left.
Chinese Marxists decided to remain empiricists and revised Marxist theory based on the failures of the 20th century, particularly the weakness of the labor theory of value used as a pricing mechanism. They switched to market economics which had been proven empirically to work, but kept the peoples' democratic dictatorship.
Modern liberalism is on a trajectory toward distruction. ChiComs may survive longer in modernity, and may have even found a viable long term system.
