Time I previously would have spent watching movies and TV, I spend watching academic lectures, listening to podcasts, reading, or working out.
I do have a collection of several thousand movies made over the past 80 years and occasionally I will watch one, but very rarely. Simply put, I have fallen out of love with visual arts. I have found more important things to do. And I don't really even miss it.

I thought the industry would revitalize itself. I was so wrong.
Although there are more independent films being made than ever, there are so many that it's difficult to find the good ones, so even less people watch them now. And almost none of them actually make it to the theater circuit, which is now totally locked down by the big studios. And what are those studios releasing with their stranglehold on theaters? Capeshit. More and more capeshit. Now, I like me a good super hero movie, I worked with Zack Snyder and he was a great mentor. But the market is so saturated, and yet PEOPLE KEEP BUYING TICKETS. So the studios have realized now what really sells tickets, marketable IPs that are already beloved. Studios are reluctant to make anything else these days because nobody will watch it. What's more, all these new blockbusters are made by committees, and are sanitized and scrubbed of any unique character for mass-market appeal (read:Rogue One, Fantastic Four).
A note on the Chinese: I actually prefer them to the Jews. Chinese culture is pretty conservative, and Communist Party doesn't want any social I'll introduced through Western media. So in order to appeal to the Chinese market, which is the biggest in the world, American studios are begrudgingly cutting back on depictions of drug use and homosexuality, as they are forbidden in Chinese cinemas. Almost all of them suck, too. Batman and Aragorn have some legit points of greatness. But a lot of the fiction I've seen involving Batman is just bizarre and perverse. They made a virtuous hero for kids into an unnatural, delusional altruistic psychopath, especially with Ben's Batman (less so with the Nolan and animated movies). And I think Jackson pretty much ruined Tolkien's original message. The entire point was missed. It was a worse deviation than what GoT's did with Martin's feminism, a totally dumbed down deviation. With movies I just avoid titles that look like obvious bullshit, and go in expecting the ones that look okay to be bullshit, and find myself often pleasantly surprised. I'm merely a republican though, not a nazi.. I've never had the patience for TV dramas but I'm sure it's similar there, just go in expecting it to be full marxist and you'll be happy when you find it's only subtly marxist. I would much rather read something or come post on here/chat with someone when I'm relaxing, or at least read a comic/manga or play a game.
