Read the books. Then read the Silmarillion, plenty of stories of elves who were 'morally grey' and screwed each other over. Then the more in depth Children of Húrin and Beren and Lúthien. Then youll see that Tolkien was able to write about things besides just good v evil. In fact, I think his works are a great look at the concept of mortality, the interplay between men and elves. The fall of Númenor is a great example of man's lomlmging of immortality, and how it ruined them.
