Where does Sup Forums stand on private ownership of dangerous animals, such as Pit Bulls?

I really want a pitbull, even if it's dangerous I don't care.

I have a friend who lives a few houses down from me that I like to ride my bike to a visit and on the way back I had a pitbull attack me. I was able to scare it off, but does anyone have any suggestions for self defense other than a gun?

Agreed. I grew up with 3 of them in the house. Nanny dogs they are. Very energetic so owners must be vigilant with training and socializing them with other dogs and people (basically like all dogs). I remember them fondly. The little bastards were rambunctious though. They weren't allowed on beds but only the couch if called for. I remember going to sleep on the couch somenights and waking up to find them all snuggled up next to me

Pitbulls are fine if you train them right, the problem is that most people don't do that. But if you do, they're great dogs.

Personally I love love Irish Wolfhounds, but they're 10x as dangerous if they aren't trained well.

I have a pitbull, he's super chill for the most part but he is very protective of me and my family. He's scared of everything (he was abused poor thing) and i think that why he's so protective. Point is that pitbulls are just like any other dog, some are friendly some are are agressive depends on the owner.

The reality is that most pit bull related fatalities are of their owners or the owner's family. The owner's(if they lived) are usually dumbfounded, "He/She just snapped".
That's actually a common trait for pit bulls, they were breed to hide signs of aggression and will suddenly lash out.

I guess the owners shouldn't just let their dog run out like that, oh well, guess people sometimes need to learn the hard way.

Mine's like 3/4 lab and 1/4 pit, she's super sweet. Growing up my dad had a full Rottweiler and she was hands-down the best-behaved dog I've seen (and his friend had a full pit who was also sweet). They both took an immense amount of time training their dogs, though, and I feel anyone who's going to get one of those two breeds needs to spend that time if they want to ensure the dog doesn't turn out violent.

When I was delivering furniture/appliances some MEAN fucking Rat Terrier was always bashing it's teeth against the window by the door whenever I did a housecall on these people.

Finally one day they actually answer and the dog runs out and fucking tries to take a nip out of my leg but only manages to bruise/blister my leg with his claws. Instantly made me want to crush its skull with my boot and desu I could have easily had it put down despite it not being a bite (blood being drawn and bruise).

My dog is a total spaz and does have situations that can trigger her to act erratically (strangers entering her space, being startled or not eased into new situations), so I take extra precautions to ensure nothing happens.

Sad the dog got shot, perhaps the guy over-reacted (although the dog came after him and its unclear of the dogs body language/demeanor by the video, so its possible it was a split second defense decision), but the owners bear the most responsibility on this one for not securing the dog before opening the door.

Pit bulls are the niggers of the dog world. It would only do everyone a favor to bread them out or only keep a small number. There are still plenty of dogs to choose from that won't maul something to death on a whim.
