To me, as a brit, it seems tensions between left and right in the US are becoming increasingly hostile. So if this is true, is there ANYTHING that could actually REDUCE the escalation in violence and tension? Or has the downward spiral truly begun?

Given this, people in the future will be less competent to face the political realities that the future holds, and it is likely that they will embrace corporate-approved moral systems, or impotent political agendas as a form of struggle and identity, and perceive these things as a form of righteousness that the system just "doesn't get". In that, most of our cities will inevitably look like favelas and slightly less shitty Brazilian cities, with rampant poverty right next to multi-billion dollar sky scrapers. It will effectively be a high crime police state (cities like NYC have long been a police state) and a place without any intellectual potential.
