All human cooperation and interaction is based on borders of some sort between the different parties, be it individuals with personal space, private property/homes, jurisdictions or international borders. All of it in place so that everybody knows what rules need to apply in any given situation for the cooperation to be possible. In this regard, society has a sort of fractal pattern.
Now the actual borders between countries are probably the most concrete example of these dynamics, but they function just the same dividing control, freedoms and responsibilities so that large groups of people with different ideals, cultures and so forth can have peacuful interactions with each other according to a mutually accepted ruleset.
Of course these borders are also in the way of all sorts of imperialistic schemes by globalists and internationalists, so they get quite the unfair treatment in media and politics. So the common argument is that you need to remove the borders so that we can have a some sort of united humankind living in peace and harmony, though in reality you can't really have that superpower or world government of yours and expect it to really function and now fall apart without the lower levels of borders well established and indepedent to act in every matter that doesn't involve cross-border interaction.
