Because the golden generation was prosperous right after the war and financially fortunate enough that they could lead an independent end-of-life state. Boomers had access to that fortune well into the 1970s, the population was still not large enough and globalization not dominant, and thus they lived under the impression that they would be able to maintain the the living standards and attitude of self-reliance that their parents had and instilled in them--boomers in turn passed on these attitudes to generation x. Nowadays, having grown up in a fucked up economy, millenials and generation z realize that it's incredibly challenging to succeed on their own and move out early and the result is spending more time with their immediate relatives, out of need, much like the rest of the world does. After boomers, it's likely that old age homes will go out of style dramatically. Not to mention how the social security administration will be a strongly influencing factor.

tl;dr: after shitty economy and the death of boomers, recent generations will return to how most of the rest of the world live and spend the old age with their relatives.

I closed my small business to take care of my dad after his stroke. He always told me he'd rather I take him out back and shoot him than be sent to an old folks home. I probably could have swung it if my sister would have helped looking after him a day or two a week and then put him in a senior activity center when I didn't have any one to look after him. But she refused to help and I couldn't afford to put him in there 6 days a week. It fucked my whole life up but I don't regret it. I just wish he could have died at home, they talked me into putting him in a rehab center "for 2 weeks" and he got worse and worse until he died.

Moral of the story: Don't rely on the vaginal Jew, have more male children.

I knew an Iranian guy in college. I went to his house once (he was hosting a dinner for the entire team)

He told me that the entire suburb I saw before me was all Iranian expats who fled from the Shah. The suburb covered the entire hillside and stretched endlessly into the distance, must have been a million houses.

In his house, was his mother, his father, his brothers, but also his elderly parents, his cousins. He had uncles and cousins living just next door as well. The entire family lived together and supported each other in the same house.

This is more like how it's supposed to be. The entire family lives as one unit. Not in a suburb either, but in a larger, multi-generational home. A house that is passed from father to son down the generations, and exists in a community of close knit ethnic relatives.

The modern way of living is soulless, this is the result.
